Ultrasonic Reference Sound Source
RSS101U

The RSS101U produces calibrated broad band sound in air from 10,000 Hz through at least 100,000 Hz .

The RSS101U is indispensable for testing and calibrating air ultrasonic devices such as range finders, aeroacousics modeling arrays, intrusion detectors, animal calling and repelling devices, and many others. This RSS101U is efficient at creating a sound field where ultrasound microphones are calibrated by the Substitution Method. ANSI Working Group S1.26 is now creating a new standard based on this principle.

The RSS101U is utilized by positioning a receiving microphone or other air ultrasound receiving device at a horizontal distance of 1/2 meter (20") from the RSS101U.

Calibration information is supplied from 10,000 to 100,000 Hz as SPL in each 1,000 Hz from the stated frequency to 1,000 Hz more than that frequency; (e.g. the FFT line from 21 to 22 kHz is labeled "21 kHz").

SPL values found @ o.5m in the RSS101U sound field ranged from 60dB at 10 to 20kHz  down to 34dB at 100kHz, all dB SPL re 20uPa in air within a 1kHz band.

Physical characteristics and delivery details are the same as for the RSS101. See RSS101 information in this site for ordering details.
